The defending Bowl Championship Series national champions are also ranked No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll released earlier this month.
LSU’s Southeastern Conference rival Georgia is ranked No. 1 in both polls.
The Tigers and Bulldogs will face off in Baton Rouge on Oct. 25.
The Bulldogs’ top ranking marks the first time they have been No. 1 in the preseason AP poll.
Ohio State is ranked No. 2 in AP poll, coming off a BCS title game loss to LSU.
USC and Oklahoma are No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and LSU’s SEC rival Florida rounds out the top five.
LSU and Florida will meet Oct. 11 in Florida.
Missouri received a No. 6 ranking from the AP — the team’s best preseason ranking.
