A cement truck involved in the construction at Parks Shops backed into the visitor booth on Stinson Drive Wednesday afternoon, knocking it off its foundation, according to Campus Police Capt. Jon Barnwell.
Kristen Trexler, a general contractor for Clancy & Theys, said an attendant was inside, but the person was not injured.
“They are going to tear [the booth] down in the morning and have a temporary structure [until a replacement is built],” Trexler said.
Dave Michniuk, deputy fire marshal, said he was unsure of how long construction of the new booth would take, and that taking down the old one would be the easiest part of the process.
For now, the only traffic permitted on Stinson Drive will be in the lanes going toward Pullen Road, Barnwell said.
Starr Wimberly, transit manager for Wolfline, said there will be a bus detour for the engineering route, as well as the mid-day textiles route, 7B.
“It will turn around at Pullen Road and stop in front of Brooks Hall,” she said.
People who would normally get on at Harrelson Hall, she said, will be instructed to pick it up at Carmichael Complex.
“But we are working to repair the damage and reopen the road as quickly as possible,” she said.
Because classes are not starting until 10 a.m. Thursday, Wimberly said buses will not start running until 9 a.m.
