University officials have officially chosen Michael Martin as the next chancellor, according to a University news release.
Martin, president of New Mexico State University, met Sunday with LSU System President John Lombardi to make the decision. Their discussion followed a weekend of meetings between Martin and his family as well as NMSU officials.
“LSU is exceptionally fortunate to be able to attract an academicleader with the experience and accomplishments of Mike Martin,” Lombardi said in the news release.
Martin’s contract will be finalized as this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting, said Charles Zewe, System vice president for communications and external affairs.
Martin said the decision to leave NMSU was difficult, but he is excited to be joining the University’s staff.
“[LSU] is a great university committed to becoming still better,” Martin said in the news release. “I look forward to working with President Lombardi and the other fine people at LSU in shaping a bright future for the University and all it serves.”
University officials did not respond to calls Sunday afternoon for further details.
