LSU freshman catcher Micah Gibbs was named to the 2008 USA baseball national team today.
Gibbs batted .322 this season with two home runs and 35 RBIs. He was LSU’s leading hitter in Southeastern Conference play, batting .345 with seven doubles.
Gibbs also had a fielding percentage of .997 and throw out 17 base runners attempting to steal this season.
The team, which consists of 20 non-draft eligible college players, will compete next month in the Haarlem Baseball Week in the Netherlands and at the FISU World Championships in the Czech Republic.
Team members are not eligible for the U.S. Olympic Team.
