LSU Chancellor Mike Martin announced the need for budget cuts in a broadcast e-mail  to staff, faculty and students on Monday afternoon.
“We have received directives from the Board of Regents via the LSU System Office that we must prepare for mid-year and longer term budget reductions,” the e-mail read. ” We are currently assessing the situation as we understand it now and gathering information.  What is clear is that every unit within and every function at LSU will feel the impact of budget cuts.  As scenarios are developed we will work with the faculty, staff and student leadership to determine impacts, consequences and strategies.  We will do all we can to keep you posted.  Despite the uncertainty we face we wish you all a happy holiday season.”
