Coffee will be available at significantly reduced prices at all campus locations through Dec. 16. Randy Lait, director of dining services, said this is a long-standing tradition at the University, which continues despite rising coffee costs. ”It’s all about supporting the students during exam time when they’re up late cramming,” he said. Coffee at the c-stores and Atrium will be 15 cents for a 16 ounce cup and 20 cents for a 20 ounce cup. A refill mug fill up will be 30 cents at those locations. The Hill of Beans coffee shop, located in D.H. Hill, as well as Port City Java locations on campus will be reducing premium coffee prices by 25 cents, but specialty coffee prices will not be affected. The Hill of Beans will continue to close at 1 a.m. but will open at 6 a.m., one hour earlier, during exam week. The Library has purchased coffee to offer free to students at the Hill of Beans which will be available while supplies last beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Mary Frances Woods, a sophomore in political science, said she didn’t know about the price reduction but thought it was a good idea. ”So many students stay up late and need more coffee during exams, and I’m glad the University does something about it,” she said. Laid said the c-stores sell an average of 1,700 cups of coffee per week. Combined sales between the Port City Java and Hill of Beans shops average about 2,500 cups per week, which will result in a revenue loss estimated at $625, Lait said. Tony Badaracco, a senior in criminology, said he does drink more coffee during exam week but the reduced prices would not affect his purchases. ”Price isn’t really a factor for me — if I need more coffee, I’m just going to get it anyway,” he said.Coffee Prices During Exams C-Stores and the Atrium 16 ounce cup: 15 cents 20 ounce cup: 20 cents Refill Mug Fill Up: 30 cents The Hill of Beans 12 ounce cup $1.00 16 ounce cup $1.40 Port City Java stores Tall Coffee: $1.35 Grande Coffee: $1.55 Primo Coffee: $1.85
