BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s eight paper mills are among the state’s most troubled industries, facing high natural gas prices and difficult market conditions.
That was the assessment Wednesday from state Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret.
The mills employ about 6,000 people directly.
Moret gave lawmakers an update on Louisiana’s economic conditions and business retention and attraction efforts.
He says he’ll be asking lawmakers to consider reworking some of the state’s tax incentive programs to help existing businesses and to expand and attract new companies to the state.
