Campus residents chose experience over impact in Thursday’s Residential Hall Association presidential elections.
Presidential candidate David Dessauer, psychology junior, and his running mate psychology junior Cassidy England’s “The Experience” ticket defeated political science sophomores Warren Quirett and Staci Borel and their “The Impact” ticket.
“All in all it was a successful election,” said Amy Scales, current RHA president and secondary education senior. “It’s the first election we’ve had in a couple of years. I was very impressed with the voter turnout and active campaigning.”
Dessauer said she was very excited with the election results.
Even in defeat, Quirett was in high spirits.
“I feel great, honestly,” he said. “I’m not nervous. It’s nothing big because I know they’ll do great things for the organization as well. The best thing [Bore and I] can do is to take our ideas and hope that they follow through on them.”
Dessauer and England’s ticket called for better representation of the residents’ voices in RHA and for possible improvements to Residential Life’s campus housing contract renewal process.
Scales and current vice president Denelle Walker, communication studies senior, will work with the newly elected administration to help ease the transition.
