Student Government officials announced Monday at a press conference a two-week “outreach program” to increase SG’s campus visibility.
SG President Michelle Gieg introduced the marketing program designed to reinforce accomplished initiatives from her original “Making it Happen” campaign platform.
“It’s not very often that you see people coming back a year later to tell you what we’ve done,” Gieg said. “We want to educate. We’re not asking for votes again.”
The marketing campaign – which cost between $2,000 and $2,500 – was funded from SG’s $5,500 total marketing budget. Posters featuring SG questions and answers framed in an instant messenger-style design will be displayed in campus classrooms.
The instant messenger design also reflects SG’s effort to connect with students via the Internet. Autumn Caldwell, director of SG marketing, said SG is launching an America Online Instant Messenger screen name – LSUStudentGov – that will be online from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays to answer questions. Caldwell also encouraged students to add the name “Student Government” as a “friend” on facebook.com.
SG members will have “outreach days” on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the next two weeks to pass out flyers and information.
“We want to educate students about resources that they already pay for,” said Caldwell. “We want them to have a connection with Student Government.
