The Centennial Campus Development Office is holding the Centennial Lunch Market in an effort to provide those on Centennial Campus with an on-site lunch option. Centennial Lunch Market is a luncheon for students, faculty and corporate partners on Friday April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Venture Center Courtyard on Centennial Campus.
“We have a lack of established food sources [on Centennial],” Katherine Taylor, property manager on Centennial Campus, said. “We have Port City Java and the C-store, which are great, but they don’t supply enough for the entire campus, and generally people leave campus to eat lunch. We are trying to provide a way for people to stay on campus.” According to Taylor, if turnout is good this Friday, the Centennial Campus Development Office will continue to sponsor the event every Friday, at least through the summer. “We are trying to get students and staff to mix and blend and come up with ideas,” Taylor said. “We want this to be the kind of creative, intelligent, nourishing environment where these people can interact.”
Vendors who will be at the event include Hungry Hank’s Hot Dogs, Cinellis Pizza, Notyamamma’s Cookies, Domino’s Pizza and Ann’s Bakery. There will be tables at the site so people can sit and eat. The event is free and open to students, staff and corporate partners.
Adam Young, a senior in biomedical engineering, said even with the other food options, he still wouldn’t eat on Centennial.
“If I need something to eat, I pick up a snack at the C-store,” Young said. “But I won’t eat meals on Centennial.” But Young said having a new place to eat on Centennial Campus would be good for more than one reason. “For starters it’s a little difficult to make a meal out of food from the C-store,” he said. “But it would be cheaper just to go down the road to get food.”
Shauna Lowe, a freshman in textile and apparel management said she thinks having Port City Java and the C-store close by is convenient enough, although having a place to eat lunch on Centennial Campus would be even better.
“It would be better because then it wouldn’t use your Board Bucks,” she said.
