Baton Rouge attorney and University alumnus David Brown announced his candidacy for the District 67 State Representative seat Tuesday at Paperclip Dock. “Louisiana is ready for some political will to do the right thing. We can no longer afford broken promises,” Brown said. “At this critical time in our state’s history, we can no longer afford the politics of private profit over public progress.” District 67, which includes the University, is currently held by incumbent Rep. Yvonne Dorsey. “I want LSU to shine like [the University of Texas] does in Austin and all the other flagship universities,” he said. Brown is a graduate of Millsaps College and received his master’s in plant ecology from the University in 2000. As a state representative, Brown said he would focus on developing the Old South Baton Rouge area near campus. “I want to work on developing community and university partnerships,” Brown said. “There’s a lot of economic opportunities in Old South Baton Rouge, and there’s a lot of entrepreneurial spirit in LSU students.”
