LSU won’t be playing in the Sugar Bowl — but it will be playing in the only game that’s sweeter.
The No. 2 LSU Tigers will be playing No. 1 Ohio State in the Bowl Championship Series National Championship game Jan. 7 in the New Orleans Superdome.
This is LSU’s second BCS title game.
No. 7 USC and No. 13 Illinois were picked for the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl.
No. 12 Hawaii and No. 5 Georgia were picked for the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl.
No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 9 West Virginia were picked for the Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl.
No. 3 Virginia Tech and No. 8 Kansas were picked for the Jan. 3 Orange Bowl.
LSU was ranked No. 2 in the Coaches’ Poll, which is one-third of the formula used to compute the BCS standings. LSU received 11 first-place votes in the Coaches’ poll. Ohio State received 46. Oklahoma was a distant third with only two first-place votes.
The Harris Interactive Poll is also one-third of the formula. The last piece of the BCS formula is the computer rankings, which are not released prior to when BCS bowl announcements are made.
The Tigers were also ranked No. 2 by The Associated Press poll that was released earlier today.
