Behind two first-half runs – 13-0 and 15-0 – the women’s basketball team dominated Alabama State in an 83-36 win on Friday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum.
Megan Zullo, a redshirt freshman, led N.C. State to an early lead following four first-half 3-pointers. She finished the game with 12 points, all in the first half, on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from behind-the-arc.
“Every time I see a zone, I’m ready to shoot – I just hope my teammates can find me,” she said. “I’m getting a lot of shots up – finding a rhythm.”
The game was physical throughout and the two teams finished with a combined 33 fouls during the contest – 23 from Alabama State. But it was something the Wolfpack expected as the team had played the Hornets last season, winning 74-33.
“We expected a lot of physical play,” sophomore guard Amber White said. “They’re a bit scrappy but I expected that.”
White had a career high in points with 16 and also totaled eight rebounds and six assists.
State plays Western Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The game will be the team’s final nonconference match as it begins ACC play Jan. 6 against Boston College.
“They beat Louisville, who was No. 12 in the country when they did,” Yow said. “Wake squeezed out a win – and Western Carolina didn’t even have their point guard for that game. If they did, they might have won with her.”
