(AP) — Shares of Louisiana and Mississippi companies took a battering Monday as the Dow Jones closed below 7,000 for the first time in more than 11 years. Several regional companies hit 52-week lows, especially in the petroleum sector. Benchmark crude oil for April delivery fell $4.61 to settle at $40.15 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. In the petroleum sector, Callon Petroleum Co. fell 14 cents, or 11.7 percent, to close at $1.06. Stone Energy Corp. dropped 56 cents, or 14.1 percent, to $3.40. PetroQuest Energy Inc. was down 79 cents, or 24.4 percent, to a 52-week low of $2.45. McMoRan Exploration Co. shed $1, or 21.8 percent, to close at a 52-week low of $3.59.
