A.J. Meek, a LSU School of Art professor emeritus of photography for nearly 29 years, was selected as the Garry Carruthers Distinguished Chair in the Honors program for the 2009-2010 Academic year at University of New Mexico.Meek is notable for his platinum and silver gelatin contact pictures made with an 8×20 banquet camera of landscapes in Louisiana and the American West, such as cemeteries, monuments and other lesser-known neglected sites.Meek has published several books including, “Clarence John Laughlin: Prophet Without Honor,” “The Gardens of Louisiana: Places of Work and Wonder,” and three other books of pictures of the Civil War battlefields.Meek has also provided photography for the book, “Gettysburg to Vicksburg: The Five Original Civil War Battlefield Parks,” by Herman Hathaway.Meek and other scholars who were selected a Garry Carruthers Distinguished Chair in the Honors program in a variety of fields, will teach in honors and other related courses in their department.——Contact Kimberly Brown at [email protected]
