(AP) — The state intends to launch a $32 million program to help nursing homes and hospitals buy generators to run air conditioning and ventilation systems when power goes out during hurricanes.
The Louisiana Recovery Authority board approved the spending Wednesday. Federal dollars will cover the costs of the program, if the Federal Emergency Management Agency agrees.
Nearly $20 million will go to nursing homes, $8 million to hospitals and $2 million each to a state stockpile and state-run shelter for emergencies.
Nursing homes and hospitals will be scored based on where they are located, their number of beds and other factors. They will be given money based on their score, and they’ll have to put up the rest of the costs for generators.—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
