LSU freshman forward LaSondra Barrett earned her fourth Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week award for her team-leading performances against No. 18 Tennessee and Ole Miss, the league office announced Monday. Barrett scored 18 points in both games and tied a career-high with two blocks Thursday against Tennessee. She also finished with three assists against Ole Miss, one shy of a career-high. Barrett has scored in double figures in five straight games and 16 times this season. She ranks second among SEC freshmen with 12.9 points per game. The Jackson, Miss., native is the first player in LSU history to win the award in back-to-back weeks and the fourth player in SEC history to achieve the honor consecutively. The Lady Tigers begin SEC tournament play as the No. 3 seed Friday night. They will take on the winner of Thursday’s game between Mississippi State and South Carolina at 9 p.m.
