The No. 8 LSU women’s golf team shot a 17-over par 301 on the first day of the Southeastern Conference Championships in Blythewood, S.C., putting them at seventh place overall.
Only one Lady Tiger golfer finished in the top 10 after day one. Freshman Jacqueline Hedwall shot a 2-over 73 to tie her with six other golfers for 10th place.
Freshman Tessa Teachman sits tied for 22nd at 4-over 75, and sophomore Megan McChrystal shot a 5-over 76 to tie for 25th.
LSU women’s coach Karen Bahnsen wasn’t exactly happy with her team’s performance.
“We did not play well [Friday],” Bahnsen said in a news release. “We did not get the ball in the hole. We had some big numbers. This is one of those golf courses I think the more you play it, the better feel you have a for it and I think that holds true for this one.”
The Lady Tigers begin the second round of the SEC championships at 8 a.m. Saturday.
TIGERS SIT IN NINTH AT SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The No. 17 LSU men’s golf team finished the first day of the SEC Championships tied with Auburn for ninth place at 13-over 301.
Sophomore John Peterson led the Tigers with a 1-under 71 on the day, good enough for a tie for eighth place.
Freshman Sang Yi shot a 3-over 75 to tie for 28th place after day one.
Sophomore Andrew Loupe is tied for 40th with a 5-over 77, freshman Josh Jones is tied for 49th after a 6-over 78 performance and sophomore Clayton Rotz fired a 9-over 81 to tie for 55th place.
The Tigers, like the Lady Tigers, continue SEC championship play tomorrow at 8 a.m. in Blythewood, S.C.
