NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A movie producer who pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe a former Louisiana film commissioner for tax breaks was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison. U.S. District Judge Lance Africk also ordered Malcolm Petal, 39, of New Orleans, to pay about $1.3 million in restitution to the state, plus a $15,000 fine. Petal was chief executive of the Louisiana Institute of Film Technology, or LIFT, when he allegedly used a lawyer, William Bradley, as the middleman for bribe money paid to former state film commissioner Mark Smith.- – – -Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
