LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen was worried the weather this weekend would be similar to last weekend’s rain fest. The No. 9 Lady Tigers dismissed early forecasts of rain and wind by jumping out to a commanding 14-stroke lead after the first day of the Bryan National Collegiate tournament in Browns Summit, N.C.
No. 4 Virginia is a distant second with a 16-over 304.While rain was not a factor, LSU managed to battle wind gusts of nearly 30 miles per hour on its way to shooting a 2-over par 290.Freshman Tessa Teachman finished today atop the leaderboard after she shot a 4-under par 68.The Baton Rouge native has a five-stroke lead over her fellow teammate, sophomore Megan McChrystal, who finished the day tied for third with a 1-over 73.”Tessa really broke through [Friday],” Bahnsen said in a news release. “It’s been building and building for her. That was a wonderful round.”Senior Caroline Martens finished the day in sixth place with a 2-over 74.Second round play continues tomorrow when the Lady Tigers tee off at 8:40 a.m.
