LSU soccer signee Tricia Johnson was named Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year earlier this week, according to an LSU Athletic Department news release.The forward/defender from St. Scholastica Academy in Mandeville gives the Tigers the Louisiana Gatorde Player of the Year for the second consecutive recruiting class.Rising sophomore Kellie Murphy from St. Thomas More in Lafayette won the award in 2008 before joining the LSU soccer team.”We’re very excited to have Tricia joining our program in the fall, and we think she has a chance to continue in the long line of great Mandeville players to make an impact on our program,” LSU soccer coach Brian Lee said in the news release. “She’s certainly very deserving of such a great honor, and I know she probably feels honored for being selected. We just want to congratulate her for that.”Johnson and midfielder Kelly Gautreaux both join the Tigers from St. Scholastica for next season.Former Tiger standouts Roslyn Jones and Casey Crawford, who finished their eligibility in 2008, were also both from Mandeville.Crawford attended St. Scholastica, while Jones went to Fontainebleau High School.—-Contact Jerit Roser at [email protected]
