The Louisiana House of Representative passed House Bill 1, the state’s budget, Wednesday with about $80 million allotted for higher education, according to a broadcast e-mail from the University’s Public Affairs Department.However, $50 million of that amount may not be available this fiscal year.The Senate Finance Committee will now discuss House Bill 1.LSU’s budget is expected to be heard on Monday, according to the e-mail.Senate Bill 85, regarding TOPS, and Senate Bill 285, regarding transfer credits, are expected to be heard on Thursday, May 21.Chancellor Michael Martin is scheduled to appear on the Jim Engster radio show on WRKF 89.3 on Monday, May 25 from 9 to 10 a.m. to discuss the budget.—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
