The LSU men’s golf team finished three strokes shy of forcing a three-team playoff for fourth place with Northwestern and TCU in the NCAA South Central Regionals. As a result, the Tigers finished just short of the fifth and final qualifying spot for the NCAA championships.No. 1 seed Oklahoma State ran away with the regional championship at the Cowboys’ home course. Arkansas finished No. 2, and Chattanooga took third.Sophomore John Peterson led the Tigers, finishing third and nearly earning himself an individual trip to the NCAA championships before being edged out by Baylor’s Cody Paladino.”I’m very proud of John in the way he has performed all year long,” LSU coach Chuck Winstead said in a news release. “He certainly had one of the best semesters of golf in Baton Rouge in recent memory. I’m proud of his play and equally proud of what he accomplished this semester in the classroom with a 3.4 GPA. That alone is a testament to what kind of student-athlete John has become.”Sophomore Andrew Loupe also cracked the top 10 for the Tigers, finishing in ninth place.—-Contact The Daily Reveille sports staff at [email protected]
