LSU climbed to No. 12 in the latest standings of the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup.LSU finished No. 8 in last year’s standings, the highest ranking in school history.The Director’s Cup measures the strength of a school’s athletic programs by awarding points for up to 20 teams — 10 men’s and 10 women’s — based on the team’s success.LSU now has 526.5 points in the standings, just last than half the school’s 1,085.0 points in last year’s top-10 finish.The Tigers’ sixth place national finish in gymnastics earned LSU 73.5 points, and LSU also earned 50 points a piece for the men’s and women’s basketball teams advancing to the NCAA tournaments’ second round.LSU is one of three Southeastern Conference teams in the top 25. Florida is No. 6 in the latest rankings with 695.75 points, and Auburn is No. 23 with 463.5 points.Stanford leads the overall standings with 1,025.25 points.LSU will continue to add to its total as all of its remaining spring sports — baseball, softball, men’s and women’s track, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s golf — take part in NCAA postseason play.The final Director’s Cup standings will be released in late June following the College World Series.—-Contact The Daily Reveille sports staff at [email protected]
