The Cold War Kids come back for their second album with the familiar big, chimey, reverbed guitars over catchy hooks. The lyrical content is surprisingly serious for anyone simply familiar with the playful “Hang Me Up to Dry”; some songs go so far as to question American parents’ treatment of raising kids (“Welcome To The Occupation”) to attempted suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge (“Golden Gate Jumpers”). Despite its occasional seriousness, the Cold War Kids deliver a fun album.
