BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A New Orleans lawyer is on track to becoming the temporary replacement for a state lawmaker who has been called to active Army duty.
Rep. Nick Lorusso, a Republican from New Orleans, will miss legislative action for a year. A House committee recommended as his temporary replacement Gregory Ernst, a partner in a civil litigation firm who specializes in maritime law, insurance defense and medical malpractice.
The committee recommendation, approved Wednesday, goes next to House Speaker Jim Tucker, who is expected to appoint Ernst as Lorusso’s temporary replacement.
Lorusso has been called up to duty in Fort Lewis, Washington. Lorusso, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves, is a lawyer and will be assigned as a deputy staff judge advocate. He reports to duty next week.
