The No. 14 LSU women’s golf team finished second in the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., on Tuesday.No. 10 Auburn won the tournament by a slim three-stroke margin against LSU.LSU sophomore Megan McChrystal won the individual title, the first Lady Tiger to win an individual crown since Meredith Duncan won the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in 2002.McChrystal, a 2008 second team All-SEC performer, ended her first two rounds tied for fifth place with a score of 1-over par 145. Auburn junior Candace Schepperle finished the first day six shots ahead of McChrystal at 5-under 139.McChrystal’s final-round performance of 4-under 68 beat out Schepperle’s 3-over 75 to give her the win.”What a great finish by Megan,” said LSU coach Karen Bahnsen in a news release. “I’m very pleased with what we did in this opening tournament. We got through 36 holes [Monday], something we haven’t been able to practice for and put some pressure on the leaders all day long. It’s a great start and a wonderful win for Megan who continues to just play so consistently.”The Lady Tigers had two other top-20 finishers in freshman Tessa Teachman (11th place, 8-over 224) and senior Caroline Martens (15th place, 9-over 225).Purdue finished third, while Duke finished fourth. Blue Devil seniors Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee finished third and fourth, respectively, on the player leaderboard.LSU also finished the first day in second place after completing two of three rounds.In a field including host No. 19 Michigan State, No. 8 Duke and No. 17 Purdue, Auburn led after the first day by 10 strokes.LSU finished day one at 13-over par 589, while Auburn came out strong finishing 4-under par after their first of three rounds for a final of 3-over 579 for the day.Auburn managed to hold on to win the tournament after the second day.”It was a good opening for us,” Bahnsen said in a news release after the first day. “We left a few strokes out there at the end, but overall did some good things.”——Contact Rowan Kavner at [email protected]
