SU freshman swimmer Craig Hamilton was not originally supposed to swim the 1,000-yard freestyle when the LSU swimming and diving teams traveled to face the University of New Orleans this weekend.”I asked [coach] Adam [Schmitt] to put me in so I could try take the record down,” Hamilton said.Hamilton did take that record down. Hamilton’s time in the 1,000-yard freestyle was one of nine pool records LSU broke at the Lakefront Aquatic Center where the Tigers (1-4) earned their first victory and the Lady Tigers (2-4) earned their second victory of the season.”We have had some seriously tough competition so far this season and came very close to winning a couple of them,” Hamilton said. “But to finally win, and by such a large margin, is a huge morale boost for the team.”Junior Jane Trepp took a pool record in the 50 free with a time of 23.34 seconds. Freshmen Sara Haley and Jana Ruimerman broke records in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, respectively.Freshman Lee Duggins shattered a record in the 200 backstroke with a 1-minute, 51.15-second time.——Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
