John Maxwell “Jack” Hamilton, dean of the Manship School of Mass Communication, announced his resignation today.
He will resign from his post on June 30, 2011, but take a leave of absence starting in December, 2010. Mass Communication professor Ralph Izard will be the acting dean of the school during that time.
Hamilton, who came to the Manship School in 1992 after years of working as a journalist, said he wants to be a faculty member at the University after his resignation is effective.
“I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to do this job,” Hamilton said. Hamilton said he has worked so long as dean, that it was time to take a different direction with his career.
Hamilton is the senior dean on campus — June 2011 will mark his 19th year at the University. ——Contact Kyle Bove at [email protected]
