THIBODAUX — Nearly $170,000 is headed for distribution among six Nicholls State University programs from the board that oversees Louisiana’s higher education. The Board of Regents awarded a half-dozen grants ranging between $13,000 and $42,000 to “enhance” classes at the university. State officials say these enhancements typically involve the purchase of new equipment, but grants may be awarded for other reasons. The grants come from a board “support fund,” part of a trust fund established after an oil settlement during the 1980s.The fund receives about $15 million per year, which is doled out among colleges and universities across the state.—-Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
