Students were confronted by a barrage of free T-shirts, bumper stickers and Tiger Trails trail mix as Monday on Mondays went mobile yesterday.Eric Monday, associate vice chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services, was joined by Gary Graham, director of the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation, Noah Miller, Student Government director of transportation, and representatives from First Transit on the Purple and Gold routes to gather student input on the new bus system.Monday on Mondays is normally held in the 459 Commons with Monday and another campus official to provide students with a means of voicing their opinion on campus issues, Monday said.Monday said he was particularly interested in gauging student opinion on the bus system because student fees pay a large portion of funding for the new bus system. At first students were hesitant or didn’t recognize Monday, but students began voicing their opinions on the new bus system after Monday introduced himself. Most students were concerned with the placement of bus stops.”We identified a couple of locations where they did not have the bus stop signs, so Gary Graham is going to work to get those up on the routes,” Monday said.Graham said the bus system is 95 percent permanent although they are still doing minor tweaks on routes and stops.Monday said he was particularly interested to hear from students who rode the old bus system to see how Tiger Trails compares.”It’s much improved especially after the first week, but it is taking some getting used to,” said Seth Harris, English junior. Harris said he was concerned if the new buses — made especially for Tiger Trails — will have multiple entrances because the placeholder buses students ride currently only have one entrance.Graham told students the new buses — which were ordered at the completion of the new contract — will have multiple large entrances to make entering and exiting the bus quicker.Graham said the University ordered 13 large buses which will arrive around April. The University received two smaller capacity buses this week and will receive seven more in the coming weeks, said First Transit General Manager Catherine Utt.——Contact Xerxes A.
