This past weekend, the LSU volleyball team kicked off their 2009 campaign in outstanding fashion.

They won two out of their three matches at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

The Lady Tigers took fifth-ranked Stanford to the wire on Friday night and lost the fifth game in a decisive set 15-12. But the Lady Tigers would respond in commanding fashion by defeating the Denver Pioneers on Saturday afternoon three sets to two.

LSU then swept the host team, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, three sets to none on Sunday to earn a share of the invitational title.

Sophomore Michelle Williams was named tournament MVP after racking up three solid performances during the weekend; including a team high 11 kills on Sunday.

The Lady Tigers open their home schedule this weekend as they take on sixth-ranked Nebraska on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the PMAC.
