LSU pitcher Jordan Brown will no longer play baseball, coach Paul Mainieri said Saturday in a news release.
Brown injured his knee in June during the Tigers’ celebration after LSU came back in the ninth inning to beat Rice, 6-5, in the College World Series. Mainieri said elbow injuries also led to Brown finishing his baseball career.
Brown was entering what would’ve been his senior season after a junior season where he posted a 5-0 record with a 5.40 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
“Jordan will remain enrolled at LSU and will continue to work toward his degree,” Mainieri said in the release. “Unfortunately, his body just won’t allow him to compete at this level any longer. Jordan has been a great asset to our program, and we will certainly miss him this season.”
Mainieri said Brown will still count toward LSU’s NCAA 35-man roster limit because he has received scholarship aid this academic year.
He said LSU will have to make one more roster move to comply with NCAA rules.
“We will continue to evaluate our players and make a decision in order to comply with the NCAA roster rule,” Mainieri said in the release.
