BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal announced a new dropout prevention pilot program that will begin in the spring, aiming to get skills training to teenagers to keep them in school.
Jindal said the program will be funded with federal dollars and will begin with 550 at-risk students. He didn’t know in which parishes the program would be piloted, and the education department didn’t immediately return a request for comment Thursday.
The governor talked about the program as he outlined some of his plans for the new year to the annual meeting of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.
Among other items on Jindal’s agenda this year are new laws against sex offenders and changes to the way higher education classes are funded in Louisiana.
