NEW YORK (AP) — Divers plan to head back into the frigid, murky Hudson River to search for the left engine of the plane that safely splashed down last week.
Police say the divers are expected to go down around 3 p.m. EST Wednesday, when the tide is most favorable. In the meantime, two police boats are continuing to use sonar to pinpoint the object’s location.
New York Police Department harbor officers working with a sonar expert got a reading about 60 feet down Tuesday of an object 16 feet long and 8 feet wide near where US Airways Flight 1549 landed. The engine is about the size of the object detected.
Divers were unable to locate the object to confirm whether it is the engine after running out of daylight and being stifled by swift currents.
