A 22-year-old University student died Saturday of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. Sterling Kyle Oser, general studies senior, was found dead around 4:22 p.m. in an unventilated room with an unidentified female. A space heater was in the room at 528 East State St. The unresponsive female was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital where high levels of carbon monoxide were found in her system. The female’s condition is improving, and she is expected to survive, according to Sgt. Don Kelly, BRPD spokesman.Kelly said the death appears to be accidental. There was no sign of foul play or criminal activity. A Mandeville native, Oser was the son of Gregg and Laura Seavey Oser and brother of Blake Oser. “Laura and Gregg and Blake have always been so nice to me and have always made me feel welcome,” said Oliver Alexander, close friend of Blake Oser. “My thoughts and condolences go to them all.”Memorial services were held Monday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc. in Covington. “Even though it was just on the odd occasion I would see him, every time I did see him, he had a big smile on his face,” Alexander said. “He always seemed happy.”–Contact Kyle Bove at [email protected]
