New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was named the 2009 FedEx Air Player of the year, Neworleanssaints.com reported Wednesday.
Brees passed for 5,069 yards this season, the second-best single season performance in NFL history. Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino threw for 5,084 yards in 1984.
Brees also led the league in pass attempts (635) and completions (413).
Minnesota Vikings running back won the 2009 FedEx Ground Player of the Year award after leading the NFL with 1,760 yards.
