LSU freshman closer Matty Ott was named to Baseball America’s First-Team Freshman All-American team Tuesday.Ott earned 2009 Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors on his way to a 16-save mark that would set a new LSU single-season school record.Ott also pitched his way to a 4-2 record and 2.68 ERA in 37 appearances and 50 1/3 innings. He walked just six batters to 69 strike outs.Baseball America also honored several other freshman who Ott and the Tigers faced this season.Rice third baseman Anthony Rendon was voted 2009 Baseball America Freshman of the Year following the Owls’ Super Regional appearance against LSU.Florida first baseman Preston Tucker and South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. joing Ott in representing the SEC on the first team.Minnesota shortstop A.J. Petterson, who the Tigers faced in the regional round of the NCAA tournament, and Virginia utility player Danny Hultzen, who pitched against LSU in the teams’ first game of this season’s College World Series, both made the first team.
