The new additions to the UREC expansion finally opened on March 3. From the rock wall to the new lazy river, University students share their thoughts on this new expansion.
Samantha Larsen, sports administration freshman
“I actually only went to one section. I went to just play volleyball with some friends. They were really versatile courts because you could play soccer, volleyball or basketball on them. I thought that was really cool.
“If you’re interested, definitely try it out. It’s really nice. There’s a Smoothie King in there now so if that’s something you’re interested in, it’s a nice place to be.”
Civil Engineering Freshman Jack Eroche
“I’m not one for physical fitness.
“I’m not sure how much was spent on it, but I guess it depends on the different things it would have gone to. From what I understand thus far — from what people are telling me — is that it’s pretty massive now with a lot of stuff in it, which I don’t think is all necessary to have. But if it makes people happy and keeps people healthy, then so be it.”
Biochemistry junior Katie Como
“It’s kind of like an amusement park. It’s super entertaining, there’s a lot of new stuff to do.
“It’s been more crowded than I’ve ever seen it.”
Melissa Currier, kinesiology sophomore
“I think they did a good job spending it there. Maybe not the LSU pool, but other than that, everything looks good.
“Yeah I think so because everything is updated and maybe the old the stuff, no one wanted to go because it was so small and older materials and all that.”
5. AJ Torres, mechanical engineering freshman
“I typically stick to free weights, but I know the rock wall has been a big hit, along with a lot of the cardio machines that they added in.”
“I’m probably biased because I go there maybe five days a week. I’m there all the time. I’m happy with the way the money was spent.”
