The No. 2 LSU gymnastics team will welcome No. 11 Missouri in the PMAC at 7:30 p.m.
LSU (4-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) will begin a stretch in which the Tigers will compete in five meets in four weeks.
Coach D-D Breaux just wants her team to focus on “the little things” in the upcoming weeks.
“I tell the team every week that we are competing against the rest of the country,” Breaux said. “We are excited to get in the PMAC and perform in front of a great crowd.”
LSU has kept an exciting momentum going since the start of the season and plans to bring that into the Mizzou (5-2, 1-2 SEC) meet Friday.
Senior Ashleigh Gnat and junior Myia Hambrick will be competing in the all-around with the addition of freshman Kennedi Edney.
Sophomore McKenna Kelley will not compete against Mizzou this Friday, Breaux said.
Kelley suffered a lower back injury on vault at the then-No. 6 University of Kentucky meet. She was not able to compete on floor, leading Breaux to substitute Edney on floor.
Edney could possibly replace Kelley again in the meet against Mizzou.
Edney was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week after her performance on the road against Kentucky. She totaled an overall score 39.625 on her first NCAA all-around performance, which became the third-highest all-around score by a freshman in school history.
“That was amazing that she did all events,” Hambrick said. “That’s a hard thing to do when you aren’t expecting it.”
Sophomore Lexie Priessman described how each practice is an opportunity to gain those extra tenth of a points in upcoming meets.
“Every day is another step to that direction [of winning] and where we want to be in the end,” Priessman said.
LSU has one of the most difficult routines as a team, Priessman said.
“We watch our performances,” said Priessman. “We have the skill level that some people don’t have. At the end, it doesn’t matter about the difficulty, it matters about the execution.”
