It was history at Tiger Park Wednesday night as junior pitcher Carley Hoover pitched the second no-hitter of her career and the 38th in program history in the Tigers 5-0 win over Louisiana Tech. It’s the 15th time a no-hitter has gone 7 innings and the first since 2013. Hoover’s first no-hitter was last year against Tennessee Tech.
“I thought she was great, I thought she had command the entire time” said head coach Beth Torina. “She attacked the zone and used a lot of different pitches.”
Senior catcher Sahvanna Jaquish played the biggest role in catching her first career no-hitter. She was able to keep Hoover zoned in throughout the entire game.“
“It’s really important to attack the zone,” Jaquish said. “Her strike 3 pitches were really on point tonight. She deserved that no-hitter”.
Jaquish was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of walks at the plate.
The Tigers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead of Louisiana Tech and give Hoover the run support she needed. LSU produced 10 hits on the night with senior outfielder Bailey Landry going 3-for-4 with 2 runs.
The Tigers next game is Friday night February 17th against Georgia Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
