University administration has suspended the Alpha Gamma Rho and Pi Kappa Phi fraternities for a violation of university policies.
The university is cracking down on fraternities after the hazing-related death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Max Gruver in September. LSU administrators say the AGR fraternity broke university rules at an event on the first day of class in august, then held a banned new-member activity on Sunday.
LSU also suspended the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity for failure to comply with certain risk management procedures the university instituted after Gruver’s death.
Neither fraternity will be allowed to host events, take part in fraternity intramural sports, or conduct meetings without written permission from the university.
President F. King Alexander initially reinstated certain activities that were banned, but changed his mind and told students he feared some fraternity members were not taking the situation seriously.
These are the third and fourth fraternities to be suspended or removed from campus since the Phi Delta Theta incident. Now, more than half of LSU’s fraternities are in some kind of trouble – like probation, suspension, or termination.
The university is now formally investigating AGR and Pi Kapp for more information regarding potential infraction
