Passion, among many other words, may be used to describe an LSU football fan. This particular group of fans takes passion up a notch with a lot of faith, and even more paint.
If you’ve ever been to a game in Tiger Stadium you’ve probably seen this group of shirtless guys, braving the Louisiana heat with their upper bodies fully painted in LSU purple and gold.
“We go crazy, we paint ourselves in the name of God. We want to spread the word of Christ through cheering for the Tigers. We’re here to one, support our tigers, but two to spread the word of Jesus,” senior member Ben Cross said.
LSU Painted Posse’s goal is to know Christ and make him known to others through their passion for LSU football.
Since their start in 2003, they have definitely made their presence known.
“Were just a group of guys that love Jesus, and we love football and we decided to combine that and have a lot of fun,” senior member Jacob Zahorchak said.
Almost a dozen bottles of white, purple and gold paint, five to fifteen guys from different ministries around campus and a clever slogan make up the Painted Posse’s infamous look.
The most important part of that look is the cross that is painted on each members chest before every game.
“We just hope that people see the crosses on our chests and ask us about it cause that’s what it’s really all about just to spread the word of God,” Zahorchak said.
There is no question that the Painted Posse has made an impact on the LSU student section over the years, and they have continued to make headlines for their obvious passion for the Tigers.
But still….they say that their main purpose is for fans to be exposed to Christ.
“We’re never down, even though we might be losing by 30 points we always gotta get up on the wall. Start cheering and get the crowd going, we’re like Christian cheerleaders,” Zahorchak said.
