On homecoming weekend, the Troy Trojans played party-crasher in an historic 24-21 victory. Not only that; they left $985,000 richer.
The Trojans were expected to come in, get paid, and roll over. But instead, they infected the bayou like a Trojan virus.
Despite making nearly a fourth of what Ed Orgeron makes, Troy Head Coach Neal Brown outwitted his opposite number, leaving the LSU head man grasping for answers.
“We gotta find out why we’re not making the plays we’re supposed to make,” Orgeron said. “We just gotta do some soul searching.”
Troy’s high-octane offense exploited LSU’s Achilles’ heel, the lack of defensive depth. The Trojans offensive line dominated at the point of attack, allowing running back Jordan Chunn to run for 191 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.
Defensively, the Trojans set the tone early. On LSU’s first play from scrimmage, the Trojans forced a fumble, one of four turnovers on the day for the Tigers, which included an interception with five seconds left to seal the game.
The 20.5 point underdog’s performance had LSU fans heading for the exits early, and Troy fans partying deep into the night.
For LSU, it’s back to the drawing board. But for Troy, they have a win that they’ll cherish for years to come.
