Get your wallets ready, it’s football season. Everyone knows the struggle of trying to find the perfect gameday outfit to showcase your school spirit and originality, without showing your sweat in the Louisiana heat. While you could spend your time searching online or browsing through Forever 21 and crossing your fingers hoping to find something that can withstand the longest tailgate, Baton Rouge has a better solution: local boutiques.
Local boutiques are a mainstay around college campuses because they are in tune with what students want and they usually offer original styles particular to the area. You won’t find much purple and gold at the mall, but go to a boutique and you’ll be surrounded.
Where to shop:
If you don’t have a car, or don’t want to drive far, there are three boutiques located on Highland Road, a mere half mile from campus.
4410 Highland Road
The Skinny: Edge offers quite a few items, with an especially large selection of graphic tees and skirts, like a creme-colored beaded mini or a shiny gold leather skirt. You won’t find a plethora of rompers or dresses here, but you will have your choice of tops and shoes like booties, heels and sandals.
Price: Edge’s t-shirts and tops range from $21-$36 and their skirts are in the $30-50 range.
Sales: Currently, Edge is offering all shoes buy one pair, get another pair for $1. They have a good selection of sandals and closed-toe shoes.

The Skinny: Rodéo has a small selection of items in its gameday wear section, but the store sells other black, tan and light-colored clothing for those days when you want to be subtly fangirling. Rodéo also carries small, cross-body clear bags, as well as shoes, so it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking to find something unique.
Price: Their tops are mainly from the Free People brand, so they are about $80-$100 a piece. However, there are a few basic, solid-colored tops for $19-$25. Overall, the boutique itself is on the top of the price list.

The Skinny: This store is the Mecca of LSU gameday clothing. They have dresses, rompers, shorts, skirts, tank tops, t-shirts and accessories like jewelry and purses. In terms of originality, this shop is pretty popular, so you may run into the same outfit a few times on gameday.
Price: Blink’s tops run from $21 to $39 and their bottoms run from $30 to $49 each. Rompers and dresses run about $39 to $59. Accessories usually range from $10 to $25 and if you’re in search of a clear bag, this is the place to go.
Sale: Students receive 10 percent off their purchase every Wednesday with their student ID. Blink also has a sale going as long as supplies last with many purple and gold clothing items from 50 to 70 percent off.
One honorable mention, due to its upcoming sale in September: Vertage Clothing on Perkins Road. Next to Trader Joe’s in the Acadian Village Shopping Center, it’s small, but moderately priced. They also offer student discount days throughout the semester, which you can find out about on their social media pages.
School is already stressful enough, so wearing gameday clothing far past its glory days should be a thing of the past. Head over to these Highland Road boutiques and see what you can score.
