The No. 2 Tigers put on a record show to earn a win over the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs in the PMAC on Friday night.
“Huge victory. This was big. Our score tonight was very impressive,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said.
LSU received the highest opening score in program history with a total of 197.825.
“Our whole team did a great job of coming together, bringing the energy and just feeding off the fans. We worked hard for tonight, and I think that we set the tone,” senior Ashleigh Gnat said.
Before the action began, a banner was dropped from the ceiling to commemorate LSU’s second-place finish in the NCAA Super Six tournament last season, the program’s highest finish in school history.
“We are really preparing ourselves well. Our student athletes are committed to our mission, the journey that we have set for us to travel,” Breaux said, “The table is set for us to do well.
Breaux was honored for 700 wins throughout her 40 seasons as coach. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, LSU President F. King Alexander and Athletic Director Joe Alleva were at the meet to congratulate Breaux and the team when the banner dropped.
The Tigers head to Tuscaloosa next Saturday to take on No. 3 Alabama.
