In front of the fourth-largest crowd inside the PMAC, No. 2 LSU continued its home winning streak, defeating Texas Woman’s, 197.245-192.625.
Facing the first unranked opponent the Tigers have competed against this season, LSU coach D-D Breaux was still satisfied with her team’s performance on Friday.
“We’re really proud of the team effort,” Breaux said. “We’re very excited about the fans that came out and the level of enthusiasm and energy. That doesn’t happen because we don’t try hard. We try very hard. We’re in the community. We do everything we can to market and promote our program.”
In the first rotation, the Tigers started off strong with a 49.325 on vault and all individual six scores were 9.85 or above. With the win, LSU extended its home winning streak to 23 games.
LSU junior all-arounder Myia Hambrick added a half twist to her vault, making it a 10.0 start value.
LSU’s bars score reached a season-high of 49.45, with freshman Kennedi Edney, Hambrick and sophomore all-arounder Sarah Finnegan all reaching season high personal scores.
Freshmen Ruby Harrold made her NCAA debut, scoring 9.875 on bars and later scoring 9.85 on floor.
LSU junior Ashleigh Gnat and sophomore Sarah Finnegan shared the beam title with a score of 9.925
The Tigers counted eight 9.9 scores during the meet.
Finnegan captured the all-around title with 39.30, and scoring 9.925 on two events.
“I’m very pleased with Sarah Finnegan i the all-around,” Breaux said. “It’s a hard thing because we haven’t asked her to do all-around a lot.”
With the win wrapped up, freshman all-arounder Kennedi Edney did an exhibition floor routine, garnering a standing ovation from the PMAC. Edney scored a 9.85 in the event.
“I’m very pleased,” Breaux said. “The win record, the thing that we’ve got going on here, it’s because of a lot people putting in a lot of hard work.”
The Tigers travel to Lexington next Friday to face Kentucky.
