Junior safety Jamal Adams has decided to forego his senior season and declare for the 2017 NFL draft.
Adams said that the decision was made prior to the Citrus Bowl matchup with Louisville, but he still consulted with his family this week.
Former head coach Les Miles and current head coach Ed Orgeron were at the press conference where Adams announced his decision.
“We had a tiger for life in Jamal,” Orgeron said.
Adams thanked all of his coaches for the opportunity to play.
“Coach O, we are forever LSU and a family now,” Adams said.
Adams also joked about playing for defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.
“Thank you Coach Aranda for never screaming at me,” Adams said.
Adams’ father was in attendance with other family members. Adams thanked his dad, former NFL running back George Adams, for inspiring him to love the game of football.
When asked about his defensive teammates, Adams called it a brotherhood. He said that he had texted them in a “DBU” [Defensive Back University] group message the day before.
Adams is planning to sign with a sports agency to help him throughout the draft process. He wants to better his 40-yard dash time.
Adams is expected to be a first-round draft pick.
