The LSU women’s basketball team was defeated at No. 25 Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday, Jan. 22 in the final four seconds of the game. The Lady Tigers led for almost 33 of the game’s 40 minutes and by as much as 15 points.
With the game tied 52-52 with 39 seconds left, the Aggies pressed junior guard Raigyne Moncrief who missed a jumpshot. Texas A&M rebounded and Anriel Howard scored to give the Aggies the 54-52 edge. Following two timeouts, LSU’s senior forward Alexis Hyder went for a layup that fell out as the buzzer rang.
During the loss, Moncrief became the 32nd member of the 1,000-point club for the Lady Tigers, with her team-best 18 point effort. Both Redshirt freshman Ayana Mitchell and Moncrief snagged nine boards as LSU out-rebounded A&M 35-33. The Lady Tigers also had nine steals to the Aggies’ three.
LSU returns to the PMAC for their next game on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m against Arkansas.
