Sarvnipun Chawla, the physics and astronomy graduate student who fell from the roof of the Life Sciences Building earlier today, died in the hospital after being transported off campus, according to a news release from Kevin Carman, dean of the College of Basic Sciences.
Chawla fell from the roof of the Life Sciences Building around 11 a.m. this morning. He was recovered at the scene alive but badly injured and taken by EMS personel.
According to a news release from the LSU Police Department, Chawla died at approximately 11:12 a.m. while medical personnel were treating him.Chawla suffered from serious internal injuries, but the exact cause of death has not yet been determined, according to the release.LSUPD located no evidence on the roof of the Life Sciences Building to indicate foul play and detectives are still trying to determine whether the fall was a result of an accident or intentional action, according to the release.
